Has Your Property Been Benchmarked?

bench-buttonJust a friendly reminder, that on April 1, 2013 all multi-family buildings that are within the Seattle City limits and 20,000-50,000 sqft in size (about 28-45 units) are due to report in the city’s online energy benchmarking system.  For those that do not comply with the benchmarking by July 18th, there will be a $1,000 fine issued.

There are a lot of benefits to the Benchmarking Program, here are just a few:

Everyone will benefit. Outcomes include: lowering energy costs to owners and tenants, reducing greenhouse gas impacts, and creating job opportunities.

Property owners and managers will benefit from knowing how buildings are using—and wasting—energy. Benchmarking is a first step towards lowering energy costs and staying competitive.

Business owners and consumers can make more informed decisions that take actual energy costs into account when buying or renting property.

Luckily our clients have all been taken care of, we have finished the required Energy Benchmarking Reporting for ALL of our managed apartment properties in the City of Seattle and at a reasonable cost. A lot of outside consultants recommended by the City of Seattle charge over $500 per property.
