Guns at Rental Properties

FOR_RENT_HOUSEThe gun and firearms debate is something that is quite controversial these days. And some landlords have been asking the question “Can a landlord say no to guns on their property?” the answer to that question is yes. Although, the Second Amendment states that citizens have the right to bare arms, that doesn’t include private property. Once the tenant has entered an agreement with a landlord, they need to abide by the Landlords Rules and Regulations and if the lease states “No Firearms” that is the final word. The bottom line is that landlords and resident managers want to keep their tenants and their community safe, so restricting guns is a good step in that direction. Management companies may have different theories on this topic, as reported in the article Gun Shy, featured in the latest issue of UNITS. No matter what side of the debate you are on, it is a good idea to ask the questions of whether firearms are allowed in the community you are looking into renting.
