More News on the Rent vs. Own Debate

Townhouse 3295673The New York Times highlighted the Rent vs. Own debate in a recent article over the weekend. Homeowners around the country are expressing concerns that their renting neighbors don’t take care of their rental properties like owners take of their properties. Making curb appeal and property values come down.  The other concern, especially in condos and planned communities, renters are not as interested in helping their community or joining in, because in most situation they are in a temporary situation.

In the end, there is not much to do about the renters in the area, unless your community has a rental cap your neighborhood will most likely always be mixed. The best way to deal with the situation is to be a friendly neighbor, meet the renters that are living next door and express your opinion and hope it gets heard. If there are larger problems talking to the landlord/property management company/owner of the property is your next best bet.
