Last week, the Seattle Housing Authority kicked off the last of its big housing redevelopment projects, breaking ground on the first phase of construction at Yesler Terrace.

At New Holly, Rainier Vista and High Point, the Housing Authority has replaced old, low-income apartments with a mix of apartments and houses for sale and rent, aimed at various income groups, plus parks, gardens, playgrounds and community centers.

This development of affordable housing will also bring access to safer streets, reliable transit, and quality education to the community,” Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn said in a news release.

As the housing market continues to develop and condominiums and apartments are being built in already populated neighborhoods like Ballard, Belltown and others, it is nice to see affordable housing near areas of employment, for people that need it the most.
