Landlords, Tenants & Neighbors – Communication is Key!

peopleWe say it to pre-schoolers and kids all the time “Use Your Words”, well, this goes for everyone, especially when living in a multifamily situation like an apartment or condo building. Our friends from Rental Housing Association of Puget Sound, recently wrote a great article for the Seattle Times, addressing the need for communication among renters, tenants and landlords.

One important issue to remember when initiating a dialogue with a current neighbor is to really evaluate whether the issue is truly an unreasonable one, or simply a byproduct of multifamily living. Federal, state and local laws offer various protections for renters and landlords. But a dispute with a landlord about a needed repair is handled much differently than a noise issue with another tenant.
