Fall Maintenance Tips

fallWe have already set our clocks back and Thanksgiving is right around the corner, fall is in full gear and before we know it winter will be here. This is a great time to (if you haven’t already) prepare your home for the fall and winter colder months. Whether you are in rental home, condo or if you are a homeowner, there are a lot of tips to remember to keep you and your family safe and warm during the longer, darker months. If you are in a single family home, it is a good time to check gutters (or talk to you property manager about a clean out plan), check shingles on the roof and make sure that any exterior openings are sealed up so that no cold air (or critters) can get in. Bob Villa has a great Fall Maintenance List here, that you can reference when getting ready to winterize. Wrapping external pipes, checking and cleaning fireplaces and replacing heating filters is also a good idea this time of year.

For folks living in condos or apartments, this is the time of year to seal your exterior doors and windows, applying weather stripping and caulk to these areas will help cut down on drafts. For more tips, click here for ideas for the garden, decks and other areas of the home.
