More Easy No Fail Gardening Tips from Zoomer

Spring is officially here, even if the rain keeps coming down in the Pacific Northwest and the temperatures are not going up. For many people with yards and gardens, this is the time of year to start thinking about your garden. It starts with the winter clean up, then moves on to planting plants and vegetables. This article from the Seattle Times has some great tips on how to get a jump on Mother Nature and the gardening season, so that your garden is ready when the weather warms up a bit. The main idea is to apply a thick layer of organic mulch around the base of all plants. This will help keep the roots warmer, and helps to maintain the soil temperatures at a more even level, which can reduce the chances of the ground freezing or heaving. If you do get out into the garden, this article from HGTV has additional tips to consider, in addition to mulching your plants, this is the time of year to think about cleaning up the other structures outside. Give that birdhouse a clean up, fix any stepping stones and make sure the gutters are cleared of leaves.

If you are not a homeowners, but a renting a home, make sure to contact your property manager or landlord on what type of yard work you are able to do. Cleaning up weeds, planting flowers might be okay, but your landlord should probably take care of cleaning gutters and planting any large plants or trees.
