Making Renting Easier

landlordsWhen you are in the market to rent, it might seem that everyone else in the city is looking at all the same properties you are interested in and it’s a fight to get your application in on the top of the pile. This article from Sean Martin, the director of external affairs of the Rental Housing Association of Washington, explains the safeguards that have been set up through the Landlord Tenant laws, so that both tenant and landlord are protected. For example, for both the tenant and rental property owner, the process starts with RCW 59.18.257, the state law requiring rental owners to provide all applicants with their minimum screening criteria before accepting an application and screening fee. With this law in place, tenants know up front what is expected of them, therefore they can avoid getting into a situation they can not afford or get advance notice if they may not be eligible for specific properties.
