New Proposal from Mayor Ed Murray Plans to Add 50,000 New Homes in Next 10 Years

We posted last week news about the Mayor’s draft plan regarding single family zoning, this week Mayor Ed Murray announced at a City Hall conference his proposed plan that would add 50,000 new homes in Seattle over 10 years, including 20,000 considered affordable, through zoning, development regulation and other changes. The plan states changes in the proposal would not change 94 percent of the city’s single-family zoning, instead it would relax some regulations and promote more backyard cottages and mother-in-law units in the zoning areas. This article from Seattle PI  on Monday has more details of the conference and the Mayor’s proposed plan. The news that came out last week regarding the new zoning for single family homes made a lot of people upset about the possibility of losing single family homes in Seattle. The new proposal has addressed those fears and ensures that single family homes are safe. The proposal also has goals to help with tenant-relocation programs.
