Mayor Murray Concedes on Single-Family Zoning Fight

Townhouse 3295673News about eliminating single-family zoning restrictions in the Seattle area started a very heated debate. Many people were not on board with the Mayor’s plan and in the end the Mayor and his committee decided they will no longer recommend adding more density to Seattle’s single-family neighborhoods. Instead, Murray said in a Wednesday news release, “We will refocus the discussion on designing denser Urban Centers, Urban Villages and along transit corridors that include more affordable housing.” This article from Crosscut has more details about the Mayor’s decision, which was largely due to the fact that he did not have as much support from his council. With support dwindling, the Mayor will stay focused on adding 30,000 market-rate and 20,000 affordable housing units over the next 10 years.
