Affluent Renters on the Rise

20140812-173149-63109873.jpgThere is a new group of renters on the rise these days, census data shows that more renters are coming from the top income ladder these days. This article from the Seattle Times highlights a recent census study showing that from 2012 to 2013 (the latest data available), nearly all the growth in Seattle’s renter households came from those making $100,000 or higher. That income group now accounts for one out of every 5 renter households in the city. The main reasons have to do with the economy and jobs, people move to the city for new work and are not quite sure where they want to live, instead of putting down a large down payment for a home, it make sense to find a nice condo or apartment in an area that is interesting to you and make sure it is a good fit, before making a long term commitment. With all the new construction on the market today there are plenty of high-end condos for the affluent renters to choose from.
